The phlebotomist will conveniently arrive at your preferred location, where the blood draw process itself will only take approximately 15 minutes. However, your appointment has been scheduled within a generous one-hour timeframe. Once the specimen collection is complete, the phlebotomist will promptly deliver it to your preferred lab, whether it be Lab Corp, Quest, a Hospital, FedEx, or UPS.
A therapeutic phlebotomy visit is a medical procedure where blood is drawn to treat conditions like hemochromatosis, polycythemia vera, or certain blood disorders. Here’s what typically happens:
You'll sit or lie down in a comfortable position.
A tourniquet (tight band) is placed around your arm to help locate a good vein.
A needle is inserted into your vein, usually in the arm, and blood is drawn into a collection bag or tube. The amount varies but is often around 1 pint (500 mL)—similar to a blood donation.
At the time of your visit PSM staff will take your blood pressure, oxygen and pulse rate. At the completion of visit PSM will provide the patient with a blood pressure log for your records.
